Have you ever heard of a restaurant called Ipoh Ipoh? Honestly, I have no idea until I dined at Ipoh Ipoh itself.
Located inside Sunway Giza Mall at Kota Damansara, it’s official that Ipoh food has finally conquered another area!
One thing I like about the vicinity is that pictures of the Ipoh old town were used as decorations, particularly as wallpapers.
Despite being in a modernized place, it gave me a slight remembrance of my hometown – Ipoh, where I lived for almost 20 years.
Alright, let’s continue with the dinner we had at Ipoh Ipoh Restaurant.
Instead of the specialty drinks available, I ordered Iced Lemon Tea. Perhaps I was deprived of sweet drinks, but oh well – I’ll never get fed up with it.
Now on to the main courses.
First up, Ipoh Ipoh’s signature dish – Assam Laksa. Know what, it’s “Taste Guaranteed” and if you don’t like it, you get 50% off the dish!
Feeling curious about the “guaranteed” tag, I decided to try the dish first. And after tasting it, I knew there’s no way I could get 50% back.
It’s really good! No doubt about that.
Next, is Chee Cheong Fun. Having it with mushroom gravy is common in Ipoh. But I personally prefer to mix with the reddish sweet sauce.
Also on the menu was Curry Noodles. Typical curry noodles and the add-on ingredients are sufficient.
After that, the Menglembu Claypot Yee Mee. Served hot, the vegetables and the noodles blended well. It’s soft and the soup tastes nice.
The Ipoh Kai See Hor Fun tastes almost like the ones in Ipoh. Sufficient number of prawns and pieces of shredded chicken are all that is needed.
Ipoh Ipoh’s Prawn Noodles is another dish with generous amount of prawns.
Also on the table, there was Sambal Fried Rice with Fried Chicken. Personally, I don’t fancy spicy food. Therefore, sambal-related food is always not my choice. Even so, I had a small scoop – tasted kinda spicy and then leave it to the rest. :P
On top of that, I ordered an Ipoh Ipoh Chicken Burger for myself.
Well, it’s made with Ramly patties and tastes just okay. Perhaps the roadside stalls’ chicken burger is better because they have mayonnaise?
For side dishes, we had Grilled Cheese Sandwich.
Since I love cheese, I quickly ate without taking photo of the cheese inside. Nevertheless, it’s certainly tasty. But the more cheese, the better. ;)
Chicken Ham and Egg Sandwich was one of the side dishes as well. It’s another favourite because I love eggs!
Lastly, a simple Breadsticks with Kaya to end the meal.
Alright, with Ipoh food being well-known across Malaysia, Ipoh Ipoh certainly brought the local delicacies to better heights – perhaps a classier version of Ipoh food.
Price-wise, most of the main dishes cost RM10 average while the sandwiches are roughly RM7 per serving.
Anyway, I wouldn’t have gotten this opportunity if it wasn’t because of Merryn. She invited me to join her for dinner at Ipoh Ipoh.
Interestingly, I also met her family – William and son, Ethan.
So, as an Ipoh boy – what more can I say…
Yeap, I love my hometown.
I’m not sure what was I doing to the banner, but seriously – I love Ipoh. ;)
