As Nikon is one of the best in the camera industry, having one of their cameras is definitely everyone’s dream.
And well, it seems that my dream has been fulfilled when I got myself a Nikon Coolpix S1100pj camera!
My new toy! :D
Weighing about 180g, it’s definitely light and portable. To be honest, I think bringing a compact camera out for a casual photo-shooting is much convenient.
Just like any other cameras, it has a 3″ monitor screen for information display purposes such as settings and functions.
At one glance, it could seem to be an average camera – but once you touch the screen, it’s not any ordinary screen – it’s a touch screen!
With it, you are able to select on various settings just by tapping on the screen. How cool is this feature?!
Besides that, you can also tap on the screen to take photos as well. Just tap on the desired subject and it’ll automatically set the focus and exposure.
And on the playback mode, you can use your fingers to slide left and right to view the photos.
Pretty cool eh?
Included with the camera, is a mini stylus. So if you want to avoid finger prints over the screen, you can use that instead.
You can also categorize photos into albums, view it based on picture mode and give ratings to the photos just by dragging the “stars” onto the photo.
Alright, other cool features of the Nikon Coolpix S1100pj are at the playback mode. First up, it has a simple integrated editing tool.
You can write, draw, add decorations and perform quick retouch – all on the camera itself.
And so, I explored the pen editing feature…
Devilish Ken with moustache! Muahahaha!
Users are able to play around with the photos by writing text, drawing shapes, adding decoration shapes such as star, butterfly, music notes and so on.
Also, a frame can be added and there are 7 different frames available.
During the retouch mode, you can edit on the lighting, stretch photo, change photo perspective, add filter effects, re-size and crop.
And after all the editing I did, here’s a outcome of various edits done on the camera itself.
Therefore, it’s certainly a fun tool for those who love to edit photos on the spot. With it, editing on the camera is now so much easier than using Paint on Windows eh? :)
And that’s not all, I have kept the coolest feature of the Nikon Coolpix S1100pj for the last – and it’s none other than its built-in projector!
What? A projector in the camera? Yes, you are absolutely right!
Nikon has certainly pushed the limit from viewing photos on the screen – to projecting the photos on other surfaces.
When I first discovered this feature, I went like “Woahh! This is damn cool!”.
Viewing photos on the screen can only allow a few people to see at one time, but with the projector – it can display as big as a 47-inch screen. Just like watching TV!
But wait, having a camera with built-in paint tool and projector is not only cool – it could be useful as well.
Now nobody will snatch away the camera to view the photos – you can watch them with your friends anytime, anywhere! Have fun watch in a big group and enjoy commenting together.
If you’re a student, you can take photo related to your studies – make minor edits and present it immediately on the spot. It could certainly come in handy and you don’t need the big projector anymore.
If you’re a lecturer, you can utilize the projector feature to share ideas and subject-related images without the need of transferring the photos to the computer. How convenient is that?
What’s best is that you can use the projector to convey creative messages to someone else. Let’s say if words can’t describe your expression, use the photos and just edit. A picture is worth a thousand words, and with your message included – it will certainly mean even more! :D
I bet your partner will be so touched with you, and your camera too! ;)
Anyway, there is a mini remote control that comes with the camera. So you can project the photos or recorded videos, sit back, relax and watch.
All thanks to the tiny yet cool Nikon ML-L5 remote control.
Anyway, here are sample photos taken with the Nikon Coolpix S1100pj…
Indoor night shot. Even with flash, the brightness balance of the front subjects and the background is pretty even. The background is still bright and visible.
A food shot of my favourite Hakka Mee with the food mode. Still look delicious to me! :)
Daylight shot while I was on my way back to Ipoh.
The night landscape view without flash. Despite having some noise, I’m glad that it actually auto-balances the brightness when it’s dark.
For the close-up macro lovers, you’re able to do so as well!
And last but not least, the outcome of the edited photo on the computer!
What a marvelous masterpiece! The Red Devil with moustache surrounded by rainbows, butterflies, flowers and ribbons! :D
Anyway, here’s a video that summarizes all the cool features of the camera.
Know what, I’m glad to say that I enjoy using my Nikon Coolpix S1100pj camera!
With features like touch screen, editing tool and especially, built-in projector – this camera is awesomely cool…
So cool – just like its owner right? :D
