So I got myself a complimentary Windows 8 Pro installation pack…
I guess I’m probably one of the earliest customers in Malaysia to get upgraded to the latest Windows 8 sensation! YAY!
There are Windows RT, Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro available on the market. However, the Windows 8 Pro would give me all the great benefits! ;)
With much excitement, I proceed with the installation.
Oh before that, if your PC is running Windows XP or Windows Vista, you will need to reinstall your programs. But if your PC is running Windows 7, your files, programs and settings will easily transfer to Windows 8 Pro.
Fortunately for me, everything is pretty much settled since the computer is a Windows 7. All I got to do next is to install.
By the way, for those who bought Windows 7 PC from Jun 2 onwards, you can upgrade to Windows 8 with USD 14.99 (RM49.92). Check it out at windowsupgradeoffer.com. For those who has PC and would like to install or upgrade to Windows 8, you can purchase it at USD39.99 (RM122). Check it out at windows.my.
However do note that these special prices are only available till January 31, 2013. The normal price cost RM885 – so that’s about RM800 in savings if you upgrade now!
Alright, let’s get the installation started!
I was actually expecting it to be quick, but in actual fact; the installation of Windows 8 took quite a while.
So I waited patiently…
I kept staring at the newly designed Windows logo, which kinda look like a reflection of a window on the black screen. The only thing that’s changing on the screen was the incremental percentage value.
Since there’s not much to do at this stage, I kept waiting…
After about 50 minutes or so, I finally have the Windows 8 start screen with Live Tiles feature… on my screen!
If you’re wondering why it is orange, it’s because I selected it as the colour scheme of my Windows 8.
Well, after exploring around, one of the coolest things is the new Microsoft Store. It has several categories consisting of many applications to choose from!
Some of my favourite categories are Entertainment, Photo and Travel.
Oh yeah, not forgetting the Games category too!
Just like any mobile devices, Windows 8 allows me to download games to be played on the computer.
However, it’s certainly a better experience if the device is a touch screen device. A touch screen has more flexibility in terms to hand gestures when compared to a mouse.
Other than that, I particularly like the Pictures library.
It organizes the folders containing photos into a more interactive feel and look. The best part is that it is able to connect to Facebook, and you can view the photos you’ve uploaded on Windows it self.
In addition to this entirely new interface, Windows 8 incorporates the desktop that we’re familiar with. The desktop acts as an app in the Windows 8, so you can switch back whenever you feel like it.
Therefore, if I were to comment on Windows 8, I definitely love the refreshed look!
It’s a two thumbs up!
