Negaraku in the Cinema

Negaraku in the Cinema

To be honest, I’ve not been singing the Malaysian national anthem, Negaraku, ever since I left secondary school. There wasn’t any assembly during my university day, and definitely not at the workplace too.

This year, in-conjunction with the Merdeka Celebration, the government has launched an effort in hopes to instill patriotism in us – that is, to sing the national anthem before we watch a movie in the cinema. Interesting.

Well, on Merdeka Day itself, I decided to watch Elysium!

The usual trailers and advertisements were still running, and I was anticipating the special “moment” everyone was talking about!

And right before the movie starts, the audience was requested to stand to sing the national anthem. Wah, finally get to sing Negaraku again after so many years!

Since Malaysia Day is just around the corner, is collaborating with the government to instill MORE patriotism by having the Negaraku lyrics on this blog. Let’s sing…

Tanah tumpahnya darahku,
Rakyat hidup, bersatu dan maju,

negaraku tuhan

Rahmat bahagia, Tuhan kurniakan,
Raja kita, Selamat bertakhta!

negaraku selamat

Rahmat bahagia, Tuhan kurniakan,

Raja kita, Selamat bertakhta!

negaraku thank you

Thank you for singing along! You’ve been endorsed by as a… TRUE MALAYSIAN!

Now give yourself a good smack on the forehead. Kthxbai!

  1. Yeah that day I was so patriotic. I stood up twice for Negaraku cos I went to watch 2 movies. Haha! But no one sang in the cinema. And one guy was sitting down playing on his handphone!!

  2. Eh… no camera or recording devices in the cinema hall please! :P

I wonder how much budget they burnt for that clip in the beginning and the end that they had to reuse the old clips for Negaraku…such a shame.
